We’re BOS: the Birmingham Ophthalmology Society! On behalf of all of our members, we would like to wish you all a warm welcome to the University of Birmingham.
Whether you are an aspiring ophthalmologist, just want to pass your ophthalmology block, or don't even know what ophthalmology means...this is the society for you!
Potential events for 2019/2020 include:
  • Revision course for Duke Elder Undergraduate Examination - here at the medical school!
  • Our own national conference here in Birmingham - lectures, poster presentations, wet lab opportunitites, OSCE skills practice and more!
  • Clinical skills practice - E.g., Ophthalmoscopy, Cranial nerves etc.
  • Careers evening - Career pathway, how to get involved, audits, publications, sub-specialities etc.
  • Inspirational talks from renowned ophthalmologists - life as an ophthalmologist, opportunities for research and charity!
  • Microsurgical skills training course
  • Electives in ophthalmology - what to expect and how best to apply for one delivered by trainee ophthalmologists
  • Volunteering with charities caring for those with sight impairment - Focus Birmingham, support in schools and the Macular Society 
  • Trip to the Annual Student and Trainee Ophthalmic Conference held in London!
