UBMSWRFC- Women's Rugby (Rugby Birds)

For the past 38 years, UBMS Women’s Rugby has been providing the ladies of MedSoc with an opportunity to develop their fitness and rugby skills, attend a whole host of marvellous socials and forge friendships that will last a lifetime (we ain’t joking). This society is one of the most inclusive and friendly societies, welcoming new Birds from all courses and of all abilities.

The vast majority of us had never touched a rugby ball before university, but through fitness classes and Wednesday training sessions with our Captain, Vice-Captain and wonderful coaches (Men’s Rugby’s finest 2nd Years), we have grown to love the sport and been transformed into semi-professional rugby legends. Once we’ve mastered the basics, the team heads off to challenge other medical schools and local sides of similar ability, which is always a lot of fun.

Our notorious socials obviously deserve a mention too: highlights of the year include Family Meals alongside your newfound birdy family, pub golf, numerous post-match Fabs, and TOUR! Finally, the year culminates in the best night of your life; Rugby Dinner. Birds and boys combine to celebrate the ‘trys’ and tribulations in a night that you won’t forget. So come along for a ruck, a maul, a roll in the mud, or just to socialise with the finest Medsoc members! Training is held on Wednesday afternoons from 2.30pm-4.00pm on Metchley pitches. If you want to sign-up or find out more, join our Zoom to ask us questions or just chat to some friendly faces, or enter your email on our google form signup sheet!
