  • A MASSIVE THANKS to all of you who put together shoeboxes for our appeal!!!

Some of the committee members plus a couple of wonderful helper elves have delivered them all around Birmingham today. I wish we could share with you all the joy on people's faces when we gave them presents. Most were completely taken aback and one man said he had not expected to get any presents this year and that it had made his day.

The hardships that so many people are going through in a supposedly fair and wealthy country is astonishing and sickening. It was far too easy to find people on the streets in all the areas of the city that we visited. Several described how they had only recently become homeless due to financial struggles. One man specifically mentioned having problems since the introduction of Universal Credit. Another said that he lost his home 6 weeks ago but it took him 2 weeks to pluck up the courage to 'beg', because it is so humiliating. Or worse- another man said that two weeks ago he was stabbed and bottled by three people whilst sleeping - he showed us the scars.

People were so pleased to talk to us. If you have a chance, maybe next time stop and have a chat with someone. And if you don't, even just a smile and "Merry Christmas, I hope you get somewhere to stay" means a lot.

Hopefully one day appeals like this will no longer be needed, but this year, it has helped to brighten some days, so thank you.

Merry Christmas and see you all in 2018 ????

  • There's still time to get making your shoeboxes for our Shoebox Appeal for the Homeless! Please see the information on the poster below. They don't take long and are great fun to make...and it is a wonderful thing to do for someone who has very little.

PS the deadline is flexible so please message us if you are having problems meeting it - we can pick up any time next week :) Thanks! ????????
