University of Birmingham Medical Society

A.R.T.E. is Birmingham MedSoc’s Performing Arts Society, and we are a fantastic, friendly and dynamic group offering a huge amount for all those theatre and musical-loving folk out there!  Every year we put on two productions – a musical in the first term and a play in the second term.

Whether your heart lies in acting, singing, dancing, playing in a band or being a bit creative with set-building, producing or even directing – there are LOADS of ways you can get involved. We’re always keen to recruit new members so keep an eye out on our Facebook group (ARTE 2019-2020), Insta page (@ubms_arte) and the MedSoc bulletin to stay up-to-date with all the goings on.

Auditions and rehearsals for the shows are a great way to meet other students in a relaxed and friendly environment, and the socials are always great fun! Over the past 25 years ARTE have performed shows including ‘Grease’, ‘The Importance of Being Ernest’, ‘9 to 5’, ‘Fame', and last year we put on a sell-out performance of 'Chicago.'

Unfortunately, this year we will not be able to put on the first-term musical due to the current pandemic, BUT the show must go on and so we are planning on holding virtual singing & dancing workshops, and hoping that the second-term play might be able to go ahead (on-stage or virtually!)

We’re always excited to have new members in ARTE and would love for you to get involved in any way you can!

If you have any other questions at all or would like to get involved with the society please contact either Sian Thompson ( or Liz Moor ( (ARTE Presidents 2020-21) and we’ll be happy to help!

We hope to see you soon :)
