University of Birmingham Medical Society

A.R.T.E. is Birmingham MedSoc’s Performing Arts Society, and we are a fantastic, friendly and dynamic group offering a huge amount for all those theatre and musical-loving folk out there!  Every year we put on two productions – a musical in the first term and a play in the second term.

Whether your heart lies in acting, singing, dancing, playing in a band or being a bit creative with set-building, producing or even directing – there are LOADS of ways you can get involved. We’re always keen to recruit new members so keep an eye out on our Facebook group (ARTE 2019-2020), Insta page (@ubms_arte) and the MedSoc bulletin to stay up-to-date with all the goings on.

Auditions and rehearsals for the shows are a great way to meet other students in a relaxed and friendly environment, and the socials are always great fun! Over the past 25 years ARTE have performed shows including ‘Grease’, ‘The Importance of Being Ernest’, ‘9 to 5’, ‘Noises Off’ and ‘Fame’.

This year’s musical, Chicago, will be performed on 27th-30thNovember and will showcase some spectacular jazz numbers and fantastic dances. We’re always excited to have new members in ARTE and would love for you to get involved in any way you can! For anyone who would like to get involved with the musical we have chorus auditions being held at the end of Freshers’ Week on 29thSeptember. If you miss out on these auditions but would like to be involved with backstage, set-building or stage managing we would love to have you on board! Or if acting is more your thing, don’t forget we have the play coming up in 2ndterm.

If you have any questions at all or would like to get involved with the society or auditions please contact either Phoebe Lambert ( or Katie Sanders ( (ARTE Presidents 2019-20) and we’ll be happy to help!

See you soon!
