Teddy Bear Hospital

Teddy Bear Hospital

*Our Aims*

  • Help children (aged 3-7) become less fearful of visiting doctors and dentists
  • Teach children about key, basic themes for a healthy and happy life (healthy eating, dental hygiene, road safety, body confidence, physical activity
  • Get them talking about their experiences with illness, doctors and medicine!

*What We Do*

  1. Wednesday afternoon Workshops: Every week a group of up to 12 different volunteers visit a local school and deliver a workshop to a class. The children each bring their favourite teddy who has unfortunately (but conveniently!) fallen ill, and you act as the Teddy Doctor to restore him/her to full health! There may even be a chance to dress up as the famous Mr Teddy and offer some high-fives to your new friends.
  1. Massive Library Mayhem: We hold a workshop for the children of Birmingham at the new Central Library  and the Birmingham ThinkTank teaching (and being taught by our keen mini doctors-to-be!!) about the basic themes above. This is always a golden event, with smiles and stories galore.
  1. Special Needs Workshop: After our success last year, we plan to visit a Special Needs school with our usual themes of staying healthy, happy and fearless of healthcare. The children are super excited to meet you and always willing to teach you a thing or two!
